When Should a Business Redesign Its Website?

Signals that your current site is holding you back — and when a redesign is the right move.

A redesign is worth considering when the website no longer matches how the business actually works — or how customers expect to find and evaluate you.

Age alone is not the reason. A site can be several years old and still work if it is clear, fast and easy to update. The problem is friction: visitors cannot find services, trust signals are weak, or the site is painful on mobile.

Common redesign signals

You avoid sending people to the site because it does not represent the business well.

Key pages are outdated, hard to navigate or buried under old structure.

Mobile use feels compromised, slow or confusing.

You need new capabilities — clearer lead capture, better service storytelling or a cleaner content model — that the current build cannot support cleanly.

Redesign vs refresh

Sometimes you need a full redesign. Sometimes a focused refresh of structure, content and key templates is enough. Start with goals and friction points, then choose the lightest change that solves them.
